Biography
I believe that our past experiences and the various influences in our lives, such as our relationships and cultures, shape us into who we are today. Understanding these can inform us of our strengths and areas of growth, especially when confronting challenges to daily functioning or relationships. When those external interactions translate internally within the self, then we can see where health and psychopathology emerge. I work with clients to help understand the context in which they grew up and how that has influenced their decisions, relationships, and view of themselves.
I am particularly interested in helping individuals with their identity development, unpacking areas of conflicting values and building the self-esteem and confidence to make life decisions.
My main approach is family systems therapy integrated with cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness techniques. I integrate this family and relationship systems perspective with cognitive-behavioral and mindfulness-based approaches to promote present grounding, address unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, and collaborate on tangible future goals.
Areas of current focus and strengths, but not limited to:
I desire to create a safe space where you are accepted with warmth and heard without judgement. I’m interested in your personal story, exploring how you interact with yourself, the people around you, and your environment. If we decide that working together is a good fit, my goal is to explore with you the feelings and thoughts that arise in these interactions and collaborate with you on reasonable goals for change.
About me:
I hold a master’s degree in counseling from Western Seminary and a master’s degree in education from University of California, Davis. I have past experience working with children and adolescents during my time as a substitute paraprofessional and a high school teacher. It was through times sitting with students dealing with the pressures of school and life, listening to parents overwhelmed with the responsibilities of family life, and my own personal therapy journey of healing and growth that I transitioned into to the counseling field. Since then, I have worked with clients in group practice and school-based settings from elementary school age up to those well into adulthood.
I was born and raised in San Francisco, but moved to Oregon to enjoy time away from the city. In my free time, I like to go on peaceful walks with my husband, spend time with friends and family, and practice my creativity through drawing or knitting beanies for small dogs.
