Biography
When we face challenges and life transitions, counseling can be a helpful tool that allows us to cope with discomfort and find new ways to thrive. When we face loss and life-changing grief, counseling can be a lifeline.
In the course of my practice, I have worked with clients who are experiencing various losses, including infertility, divorce, loss of a child, death of a parent or spouse, job loss and sexual concerns. In these cases, my approach is a blend of empathic listening with gentle guidance for coping and small steps toward finding a new normal. It can take time to heal and find hope for the future. Time and again, I have walked with clients through dark and difficult places as a supportive coach and experienced helper; helping them discover a meaningful life after loss.
I also really enjoy helping people find strategies to overcome anxiety. I use a blend of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Strengths-Based Therapy with a warm and collaborative approach which emphasizes respect for your values and goals. I love helping my clients tap into their own strengths and resources to shift perspectives and overcome old habits.
For those who are interested, I also have specialized training in spiritual development and growth, as it relates to mental health and well-being.
Areas of interest and experience:
I am licensed to work in both Oregon and Washington and available to meet with clients in person or via telehealth. I believe that part of reaching your goals is finding a counselor that feels like the right fit for you -- and I am happy to offer a free 15-minute phone consultation for interested clients.
I earned a Master of Arts in Counseling and a Graduate Studies Diploma in Biblical and Theological Studies from Western Seminary and completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Oregon. In my free time, I enjoy working around the house -- cooking, gardening and interior design. A native Portlander, I love the outdoors and enjoy hiking, backpacking, cycling and international travel.
I am a National Certified Counselor, Certified Mental Health Counselor and a member of the American Counseling Association
